Report: Deal To Be Signed This Week

It has been reported that the Ontario Racing Commission and eight standardbred racetracks in the province will sign a five-year deal this week.

An article by The London Free Press has cited Ontario Horse Racing’s John Snobelen as saying that the deal will give the industry the longest period of stability its has ever had.

“It’s a pretty exciting program. We’re going to have more purses and more race opportunities this year than we had last year,” the article has quoted Snobelen as saying.

Snobelen went on to say, “We have the industry rowing together. We have tracks now co-operating with each other to help market the product and put it on properly.”

The article also contains quotes from Western Fair Raceway chief executive Hugh Mitchell.

Really? Mr. Snobelen is quite impressed with himself. Wasn't our previous deal for stability at least this long a term prior to the government of the day simply walking away from their obligation? For what participants is the deal sustainable? WHo are the industry participants allowed at the table? Seems to me that the transparency, accountability, and sustainability of the newly branded Ontario Horse Racing is only for a select few. Don't hurt your shoulder patting yourself on nthe back Mr. Snobelen. Even better, please be as quick to accept blame as you are credit.

Never have I seen such arrogance and condescension with the willingness to tell people how they should manage an industry as this present government and it's agents in the form of John Snobelen et. al.
They go out of their way to literally kill an entire industry that brought them billions of dollars and yet somehow now they are the "saviours" of the sport and will bring in growth, and expansion.

Does anyone buy this horse bleep? Well apparently everyone in Ontario NOT affiliated with the racing industry must and oh yes the Wynne government and surrogates believe their own press releases.

Enough Mr. Snobelen enough haven't you collected enough from your work as a "consultant" move on please. I for one don't want to read, hear or see anymore "good news" you and the Wynne government propaganda machine puts out.

I am so glad they left half of the province out of this agreement Between south western Ontario and eastern Ontario. They can't be too serious about growing the business when they leave the second highest per capita betting area (Windsor)out of the agreement.
