Golden Receiver Shines In Art Unger
Golden Receiver seized command at the half and never looked back en route to a sharp victory in the first of three $12,500 Art Unger Stake divisions Sunday afternoon at The Meadowlands.
Driven by George Brennan, Golden Receiver was clocked in 1:53 as he rolled to his seventh win in 12 career starts. Sent off the 2-5 favourite, Golden Receiver defeated Ooh Dear Sam and the pocket-sitting Rock Creek Rocky.
Mark Harder trains Golden Receiver, a four-year-old son of Village Jove, for Richard Taylor, Nina Simmonds, Stephen Springer and Stable 45.
In the second Art Unger division, Red Mile Road lit up the tote board thanks to a 50-1 upset over the tiring 1-5 favourite Blue Boy at the wire in 1:52.2. Stretch Artist was a lapped-on third.
Driven by David Miller and trained by Ken Rucker, Red Mile Road posted his first win in three starts this season. The four-year-old son of Cams Card Shark is owned by Illinois partners Gail Austin, David Lipsman and Mark Fransen.
Real Samart captured the final Art Unger division in a time of 1:52.3 for driver Yannick Gingras. Red Star Catch finished second and Johnny Absolut was third.
Ross Croghan conditions the four-year-old son of Real Artist for Michigan partners Steve Main and Gordon Rains.
The $73,500 final of the Art Unger Stake will be contested as part of a special President's Day matinee card on Monday, February 16. Post time is 1:10 p.m.
