Social Housing Reps: No Mini-Casino
According to a report by the West Island Chronicle, the NDG borough council and community organizations are dead-against the Quebec government's plan to convert Hippodrome de Montreal into a mini-casino
.
The article states that, according to mayor Applebaum, the provincial government's plan to increase the location's VLTs to 300 runs against anti-gambling bylaws established by the borough.
According to Snowdon councillor Marvin Rotrand, the borough sent a letter to minister Bachand on December 19 concerning the project and have yet to receive a reply.
Social housing advocates have apparently also mobilized against the gambling complex.
