Birdwatcher Gets Equine Surprise

When squirrels get into birdfeeders, avid birdwatchers get their heart rates up. When horses get into birdfeeders, well, the birdwatchers call the police.

It has been reported that a Cleveland-area resident called local police last week when she discovered that a neighbour’s horse was in her backyard, eating her bird food.

The article, by The Cleveland Plain Dealer, states that the horse was captured and returned to its barn. The horse’s owner was given a recap of village ordinance, followed by a second violation warning notice.

Although birdwatchers do not like it when squirrels invade their feeders, the squirrel lovers of the world relish the chance to feed their furry little friends.

Now, enter the infamous rubber horse-head mask into the equation.

The mask has proved to be a popular item over the past couple of years, as it has shown up at NHL hockey games, MLB baseball games, during the coverage of Hurricane Sandy and even on Google Street View.

An online retailer is currently selling a miniature version of the horse head, but this time the rubber head is actually a feeder for squirrels – and at least some of the furry critters appear to really like them.
