MacDonald Sweeps Preferreds In London
It was certainly worth the trek down the 401 highway Tuesday afternoon for driver James MacDonald considering he swept both of the Preferred events at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
MacDonald rolled Keystone Orion to the front in the $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters, and the five-year-old son of Angus Hall-Ozone Hanover didn’t look back en route to posting a 1:58.1 score. The OSS grad led the field through fractions of :28.2, :59.2 and 1:28.2 before sealing the deal with a :29.4 closing quarter. He won by 4-1/2 lengths over Aisling, with Heres The Magic rounding out the top three in the eight-horse affair.
Don Lindsey of Fergus, Ontario owns and trains the 11-time winner who bumped his overall bank account to $297,270 with the win. The victory improved the square gaiter’s 2014 record to 2-2-2 from six trips to the track.
MacDonald also mapped out the winning trip for Ostinato, who circled the field to win the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 for pacers. The Jim Wellwood trainee fired home in :29.2 to stop the clock in 1:58.3. She improved this year’s record to 4-0-3 from seven trips postward by defeating Rubber Belly and Black Magic Eyes.
Jim Wellwood and Jeff Wellwood own the 29-time winner who pushed her lifetime earnings to $272,391 with the victory.
