Lorne McKenzie Passes

Trot Insider has learned that Lorne McKenzie, 81, of Dresden, Ont., passed away February 11 after a 15-year battle with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

Lorne leaves behind his wife, Flo; four grown children; eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Lorne wore many hats. He was an OPP officer, farmer, trainer, driver, blacksmith, race secretary, and an OHHA representative.

He also operated a public race stable with Pat Crowe; trained horses for the Jack Kopas Stable at Ben White Raceway in Florida; re-opened Leamington Raceway in the late 1980s, installing lights for night racing - and the list could go on and on.

Although, the biggest hat Lorne wore was that of being the best husband, a super father, and the greatest 'papa' any of us could ever ask for.

Flo would welcome the opportunity to hear from anyone wishing to contact her (email: [email protected]).

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Lorne McKenzie.

I knew Lorne well during the best of times at Windsor and Leamington in the 70's. He was a good guy, a hard worker with a big sense of humour. My condolences to the family.
