Happy 69th Herve!

Herve Filion2.jpg

Herve Filion has done his fair share of celebrating in the winner’s circle at tracks all over the world, but on Wednesday, February 4 he was doing a different type of celebrating

.

The winningest driver in the history of North American harness racing (15,174 wins) is celebrated his 69th birthday on Wednesday, and we’d like to extend our congratulations to the world renowned sulky sitter – and sometimes sulky stander!

Filion, a native of Quebec, now hangs his helmet in Albertson, New York. The double Hall of Famer has long been considered one of the sport’s greatest of all time, and it was the late Billy Haughton who said it best.

“There are a lot of good harness drivers, a few great ones ... and then there is Filion," stated Haughton.

Filion has a long list of great accomplishments in his career including winning the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s Professional Athlete of the Year in 1971, campaigning Canadian legend Grades Singing and defeating the great Albatross with Nansemond in the 1971 Little Brown Jug. He also captured the Delaware classic in 1979 with Hot Hitter.

Happy birthday Herve!
