Ready Cash Retires
It was a bittersweet end to the on-track career of harness racing's richest trotter this past weekend in France.
Sunday's Prix de France was the final race in the long and illustrious career of Ready Cash. After making a break late in the 2014 Prix d'Amerique two weeks prior, Ready Cash broke early in the 1-5/16 mile contest, thus leaving him disqualified. The race was won by Noras Bean and driver Bjorn Goop, giving Swedish-based horses wins in the last two major trotting events in France: the Prix d'Amerique and the Prix de France.
Ready Cash will head to full-time stallion duty in France with more than $5.77-million (USD) in earnings after winning 40 of 68 lifetime starts. The son of Indy De Vive - Kidea has performed as a stallion over the past number of years while still competing on the track, with his oldest offspring now racing as four-year-olds.
It takes a super horse to win
It takes a super horse to win over five and three quarter million dollars, very good decision by the owner, when a trotter makes more than one break, it means there is something wrong that needs fixing and this horse surely deserves a retirement.
