McCoy Named USTA Director
On Wednesday, January 22, the District 1 Directors of the U.S. Trotting Association appointed Steve McCoy as its newest membership director.
McCoy, who is president of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, will fill the position vacated by Sam ‘Chip’ Noble III, who passed away on January 13. Noble’s two-year term was to expire this year.
“Steve has served admirably as president of OHHA and (his work) is a key reason for racinos and the revitalization of harness racing in the state of Ohio,” said District 1 Chairman Dick Brandt.
According to USTA bylaws, McCoy will serve as director until the District 1 membership meeting in 2015, where he will stand for election.
A transactional lawyer by trade, McCoy said he brings experience in contract negotiation and governmental relations to his position as USTA director.
“I’ve owned horses since 1982, so I’ve followed the trials and tribulations and successes and failures of the USTA for several decades,” said McCoy, who has been president of OHHA for five years. “I believe there are issues in the industry that need to be addressed. I believe that with my experience and background and training, I have some insights to offer in regards to those issues.”
