'Doober' Delivers In F&M Open
Doober Hoozzitz only had one rival beat at the mid-way point of Friday’s $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Northlands Park, but she had them all eating her dust at the finish line.
With Paul Davies at the lines, Doober Hoozzitz got away fifth and held that position as the field of six chased Albertas Dragon through first-half fractions of :27.1 and :56. Davies and Doober Hoozzitz advanced to third on the outside, however, at the three-quarter pole. Jennas Pass was the new leader past that post in 1:25.1, but she couldn’t fend off Doober Hoozzitz.
The Ron Starkewski trainee took over in the lane and used a :30-second final frame to win by a length over Phoenician Gal in a career-best clocking of 1:55.2. Jennas Pass faded to finish a distant third.
Fred Lamont of Calgary, Alberta bred and owns the nine-year-old daughter of Raleigh Fingers-Fascinating Sara who won for the 16th time in her career. She recently surpassed $250,000 in lifetime earnings.
