Will Pinner Make It Eight Straight?

Pinner has been established as the favourite in Saturday afternoon’s feature event at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park, but the oddsmaker has labelled two horses with a shot of ending his winning streak.

The CDP’s 13-dash card will kick off with a 1 p.m. first-race post time.

Marc Campbell has the driving assignment behind Pinner – owned by Kevin, Lillian and trainer Brian Ladner of Charlottetown – who will be searching for his eighth consecutive victory. The son of Mach Three headlines the six-horse field.

McJestic (3-1) and Cambest Kisser (7-2) will try to spoil the party.

Cambest Kisser (who is to be driven by Jason Hughes) went after Pinner early in the last start in an attempt to rough up the favorite, but that didn’t work and he settled for second place. On the other hand, McJestic has drawn the rail and shows some fast closing efforts. Brodie MacPhee will drive McJestic for owner-trainer Troy Murray of Cornwall.

Panacotta (Mark Bradley), Miracle Matts (Corey MacPherson) and Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie) will also make the race interesting.

In other action, Van Zant is the morning line favourite for ‘Team Matheson’ in the back-up class. McMaverick, from the Keith Campbell stable of Tyne Valley, and Stayoutofmyaffair are also top candidates. Pictonian Walton will be looking for his third win in a row in the afternoon finale for young driver Brandon Webster. Webster, who recorded his first lifetime win back on November 16, rallied for a win on New Year’s Eve and then came back last week for another victory after being parked the entire mile. The 21-year-old Morell resident has taken Pictonian Walton from Post 4 for owner Roger MacRae of Belfast.

Red Shores is proud to launch its harness racing fans choice awards. The ballot is located in the on-track race program. Fans can select their favourites in several categories. The winners will be announced in a few weeks.
