Pinkney: "It Is A Great Honour"

He may not have been in attendance to accept his O'Brien Award of Horsemanship Saturday night at the Delta Meadowvale, but it didn't take long for the news to get to Phil Pinkney

.

The veteran horseman was cleaning out stalls, jogging horses and giving some interviews Sunday morning at Truro Raceway.

"…It was really nice to be nominated and that it is a great honour to get the award because there are a lot of good horsemen all over Canada," Pinkney, 71, told thechronicleherald.ca. "The other guys that were up for the award deserved it just as much as I did. They are terrific horsemen."

Pinkney noted in the article that he didn't attend the black tie awards ceremony due to obligations in Novas Scotia. He did say, however, that when he received a midnight phone call informing him of the win he was excited.

"I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve had a few good horses in recent years," stated Pinkney, who went on to say in the article that, "I’m going to keep on doing what I love doing as long as I keep healthy. I’m also excited about the future because I now have six nice young horses that are going to be good."
