Fred Griffin Passes

Longtime western New York horseman Fred Griffin, 77, passed away on December 26, 2013 in Batavia.

‘Griff,’ as he was known by many horsepeople and racing fans, drove predominately in the 1970s and 1980s in western New York, at Batavia Downs and Buffalo Raceway.

During the 1990s he raced mostly on the New York County Fair circuit.

He was trainer/driver for the powerful Ja-N-Em stable. He also drove several charges for owners James Nappo and Joanne Angarano.

During his career he won 541 races and his drives earned $908,067 in purses.
