Gts Jerilyn Wires Northlands' Open Mares
Gts Jerilyn held off the quick-closing favourite, Feelin Flush, to win this week's $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on a snowy Friday night at Northlands Park.
Driver Brandon Campbell sent the 5-2 second choice to the lead from post four over inside starters American Passion (Gerry Hudon) and Feelin Flush (Travis Cullen). Gts Jerilyn then carved out fractions of :29.1, 1:00 and 1:28.1 en route to the 1:58.1 triumph over the frozen track. Feelin Flush was flushed first over near the half-mile mark, but ran out of racetrack as she came charging home down the stretch and finished half a length behind Gts Jerylin. The pocket-pulling American Passion was third.
Gts Jerilyn has earned nine wins in 41 starts during two seasons on track to bank $73,520 in purses. The four-year-old As Promised mare is owned and bred by trainer Gerald, Terry and Marjorie McGinn, all of Stony Plain, Alta.
She paid $7.20 to win Friday's feature race.
Trainer Jamie Gray enjoyed a night of perfection winning with all four of his Friday starters. With wins aboard Real Pretty ($5), maiden-breaker War Feather ($6.30), Blue Star West ($13.50) and Popcorn ($5) through the first five races on the card, Gray now has 35 training tallies this year.
