New Chester Title For Brown
It was announced today that Barry Brown has been named the new director of Racing Operations at Chester Downs.
In his new role, Brown will oversee all racing and simulcasting initiatives at the Chester oval, which will kick off its fourth season of world-class harness
racing on Monday, April 13. Brown replaces Mike Tanner, who left in December of 2008 to accept an executive position at the United States Trotting Association.
Brown, 42, joined Chester in June 2006 as the track’s Operations/Simulcast manager and was instrumental in the property’s racing launch later
that year. He assumed primary responsibility for all frontside racing operations and for the development of Chester’s burgeoning simulcast
network, while also working closely with the track’s racing office and horsemen’s organization. Previously, Brown served in a variety of roles, including
assistant manager, Operations, and director of Simulcasting, at Freehold Raceway from 1993 through 2004.
Brown graduated from The College of New Jersey in 1988 with a B.A. in Communications, and also completed the Race Track Industry Program at the
University of Arizona in 1993.
