Miller Breaks Hip In Training Spill
Trainer Del S. Miller suffered a broken hip in a training mishap before Friday’s card at The Meadows and will undergo surgery Monday for insertion of a metal rod.
Driver Brett Miller, Del’s son, indicated the accident occurred on the auxiliary training track when a horse the elder Miller was jogging “got spooked,” veered from the track and dumped him from the cart.
“He said when he hit the ground, he heard his hip snap,” Brett Miller said.
He was transported by ambulance to Canonsburg Hospital, where the surgery will be performed. Although doctors are not yet able to provide a recuperation timetable, Brett Miller indicated his father could be released from the hospital as soon as Monday, his 57th birthday.
