Faves Deliver In Preferreds
Clic K and Lady Latte were a cut above the competition in their respective Preferred assignments on Tuesday’s 12-race card at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Tony Kerwood took over the lines on Clic K in the $10,000 Preferred 2 for pacers and he made the most of the catch-driving opportunity with the Ben Wallace pupil. A beaten favourite one week earlier, Clic K led the field through panels of :27.4, :58 and 1:27 before scooting home in :30.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Thats The Life in 1:57.2. Third prize went to Rays San.
It was the seventh win of the season for Clic K, who went over $300,000 in lifetime earnings with the victory. The 28-time winner is owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ontario.
Lady Latte was the leader at every call in the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 class for the tandem of driver Billy Davis, Jr. and trainer Gord McDonnell. The roan mare was parked outside of Winbak Your Kash at the quarter pole in :27.3, but she eventually swept by that foe and threw down middle panels of :57.4 and 1:27.4 before using a :30.3 closing quarter to win by 7-1/4 lengths over Noartographsplease in 1:58.2. Its No Secret battled first-over before fading to finish third.
Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, Lady Latte nabbed just her second win of the season for Craig Turner and Mhairi Kersel of Ingersoll, Ontario. The 31-time winner pushed her lifetime earnings in excess of $411,000 with the triumph.
