December’s Heart of Harness Racing Photographer

December-Calendar-Homepage.jpg

December’s feature shot in the Heart of Harness Racing Calendar was photographed by Donna Walters of Coldwater, Ontario.

Donna managed to snap this shot of her husband Bill with Autodynamic, and Linda Rumney with Billy Bilton on a crisp winter morning. Donna maintains that it was just a ‘lucky shot’ with a point and shoot camera. She has since bought a digital SLR camera and enjoys capturing those special moments with her grandchildren, the horses, their beautiful farm and her perennial gardens.

Bill and Linda Rumney are partners and have one horse racing (Autodynamic) and a full brother (Anutherdynamic) in training. Both Bill and Linda are licensed trainers too. The Walters also have two broodmares and a pony for the grandkids.

Donna and Bill are both retired now. Bill was a building contractor and Donna was a laboratory technologist until she stayed home to raise their two children.

The Walters have had horses for 45 years and started out with Arabians. Twenty- five years ago when an old harness making friend (Jim) was diagnosed with terminal cancer and became too weak to train his horse, Bill suggested he buy half of the horse. Jim proceeded to teach Bill about horse racing and to make it easier for Jim, Bill put in a track at his own farm. That seemed to keep Jim going for awhile and he was able to enjoy his horse. The Walters have been enjoying horse racing ever since.

This was the final profile of our 2013 Heart of Harness Racing calendar photographers. Thank you to all of the twelve photographers for sharing their great photos and also a glimpse into their lives.
