'Supercam' Prevails In Five-Across Finish
P H Supercam, driven by Jason Bartlett, skimmed the cones Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway mad-scramble $37,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Away second from post position No. 6 (in one notch after an inside scratch), P H Supercam was shuffled to third after a quarter-move by All Speed Hanover (Brent Holland).
That one made the lead around Dream Out Loud N (Jordan Stratton) at the :27-second opening quarter-mile, then found a :55.4 intermission.
Escape The News (George Brennan), as the 11-10 favourite, moved first-up from fourth. He pressured the leader through a 1:24.1 three-quarters. All Speed Hanover actually enjoyed a length and a half of separation entering the lane, but could not close the sale.
'All Speed' was surrounded on all sides, but the short way home of P H Supercam proved best. He closed deep in the passing lane to whip a stubborn Escape The New by a head in 1:53. Ardyne Ace (Larry Stalbaum) was a second-up third, with Dream Out Loud N and All Speed Hanover rounding out the payees. The five-some found themselves separated by a half-length at the line.
P H Supercam, a six-year-old Million Dollar Cam gelding owned by Bamond Racing and trained by PJ Fraley, returned $10.40 (third choice) for his 11th win in 26 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $49, with the triple returning $162.50.
