Guns An Roses front-stepped his way to a season's best victory in the featured $10,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday night for Team Colville.
Driven by Jack Moiseyev, Guns An Roses left from post three and retook the lead early on through a :28-second opening quarter. He proceeded then to the half in :56.1 and three-quarters in 1:25 en route to the 1:53.4 triumph. Favourite Bestinthebusiness (Trevor Henry) advanced first over from fourth to challenge the pacesetter at the third quarter station, but couldn't get by as Guns An Roses drew clear down the stretch. Mach It Big (Nick Steward) finished three lengths behind in third.
Sent postward as the 2-1 second choice, Guns An Roses paid $6.20 to win. He has now won two of his five starts in 2013.
Frank Colville trains the five-year-old Life Sign gelding for Joanne Colville and Emma Christoforou.
Earlier in the night, favourite Stompin Tom Creek and driver Billy Davis Jr. tracked down pacesetter Stoney Durkin (Bruce Richardson) to win the $6,500 Preferred 3 by half a length in 1:56.3. The six-year-old Western Terror gelding is trained by Andrew McCabe for owners Glenview Livestock Ltd. and Leonard Christopher.
