'Tyson' Upsets Fraser's Open Pacers
Red Star Tyson and driver Brad Watt wore down favourite Sterling Cooper en route to posting a 9-1 upset in this week's $10,500 Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Friday night.
Red Star Tyson sat off the pace in fourth-place through opening fractions of :27.2 and :56 before rolling up alongside the leading Sterling Cooper (David Hudon) as they approached the third quarter pole in 1:24.3. Red Star Tyson eventually drew clear in deep stretch to take a new career mark of 1:53.4. Assigned outside of the other five starters, Cantbeatacheetah (Jim Marino) trailed the field for most of the mile before sprinting home to edge out Sterling Cooper for the runner-up honours.
Langley's Richard Craig owns and trains the five-year-old As Promised gelding, who earned his second (consecutive) win from 18 seasonal starts.
Red Star Tyson returned $20.10 to his backers at the betting windows.
Craig scored a training double on the 10-race card with Mate Hecimovic's four-year-old mare Justanother Day ($7.30) earning her second career win in 1:59 with John Abbott aboard.
