Glidemaster To Winbak Of Ontario

On Friday, November 22, Brittany Stallion Management announced that world champion racehorse and sire Glidemaster is being relocated to Winbak Farm of Ontario.

Winbak will be assuming managerial duties for the stallion, whose stud fee will remain at $4,000. Glidemaster becomes the sixth addition to the stallion barn at Winbak of Ontario.

“We’re glad the opportunity presented itself to stand a Horse of the Year and a sire who’s already producing world-class trotters. We’re excited to have him,” said Winbak Farm Owner Joe Thomson.

Thomson added that Winbak will offer its full support of the stallion in terms of breeding mares to him and promoting him.

2006 Hambletonian – Glidemaster – 1:51.1

Glidemaster 2, 1:55.3; 3, 1:51 earned close to $2-million during his racing career. He was a world champion and Triple Crown winner who captured the Hambletonian in stakes-record time. He was an overwhelming selection as Horse of the Year in 2006.

“We feel that Ontario has a void in trotting stallions, and Glidemaster will help fill it,” said Thomson. “Winbak Farm is optimistic about the sire stakes and grassroots program in Ontario.”

Leading his progeny in 2013 earnings is world champion and two-time Breeders Crown champion, Maven, 2, 1:56f; 3, 1:52.3; 1:51.4h -'13 ($1,420,319). He is also the sire of O’Brien Award Winner, Blue Porsche, 2, 1:54.1s; 3, 1:54s ($638,240), For You Almostfree, 2, Q2:01.1s; 3, 1:56.1s; 1:53s -'13 ($309,146) and PASS Winner, Punxsutawney, 2, 1:56.2f; 3, 1:53.2f -'13 ($300,153). Glidemaster is the sire of 11 who have trotted faster than 1:55.

We are all aware of the continuing exodus of breeding stock from this Province to other venues in the U.S. and elsewhere! Mr. Thomson is to be congratulated on his turning the other cheek! He was insulted, without due cause by one of our officials and told to go home. Thank goodness he has chosen to not only stay, but add a new stallion to his ranks. Does he know something the rest of us don*t? Welcome back sir! We sure need some positive news.
