Tornado Tim Triples Up
The winning streak is now three in a row and counting for Tornado Tim thanks to his 1:58.4 in Tuesday’s $10,000 Preferred 2 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Trainer/driver Danny O’Brian mapped out a sweet, second-over trip for Tornado Tim in the featured tilt, and the gelding didn’t let it go to waste.
Cimeronken sliced out splits of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:27.3, but he couldn’t seal the deal. Bruce The Brave was first-over for more than the final half of the contest, and glued to his cover was Tornado Tim. O’Brian flipped his charge off cover and the six-year-old son of Revenue S –Cyclone Annie got up to post a half-length decision over Bruce The Brave in 1:58.4. Cimeronken held on to finish third.
Everette Hanson of Maugerville, New Brunswick owns the 18-time winner, who is now 6-for-30 this season. He’s stashed away $46,335 in seasonal earnings and more than $163,000 to date.
Rachel Olivia came up a head short when she settled for the runner-up spot in last week’s $9,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 event, but she came out on top in a tight photo finish in Tuesday’s edition of the class.
Alfie Carroll grabbed a two-hole trip for the four-year-old daughter of Western Maverick-Julo, who watched Black Magic Eyes supply fractions of :27.1, :57 and 1:26.2. Race favourite Putnam Mackenzie pressed the leader in the back-half of the mile before backing away. Rachel Olivia shook loose in the lane and used a :29.2 closing quarter to win by a nose over a dead-game Black Magic Eyes. Foolish Mind rallied from far back to grab the show dough.
The Daryl Roberts-trained homebred, who was sent off at odds of 7-1, is owned by Rasa Roberts of London, Ontario. It was the 19th lifetime tally for the career winner of $105,897.
Sonny Vale survived a first-over trip en route to winning the $6,500 Preferred 3 Trot in 2:00.4 for the tandem of driver Billy Davis, Jr. and trainer Brent Belore. Sent off at odds of 5-1, Sonny Vale wore down the tempo-setting Marlex Paid and fended off a late surge from the eventual runner-up, Latte Café. Mr Euro tagged along to finish third.
The nine-year-old son of Village Barrister-Sunshine Coast is owned by Patricia Duncan and Colleen Belore of Embro, Ontario. The homebred has racked up 19 lifetime wins while stashing away more than $184,000 in career earnings.
Mc Taylor was a popular winner in the $6,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3. The Richard Moreau trainee made a bold, four-wide move in the backstretch and drew clear to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:57.4. Pretty Blue Eyes grabbed the runner-up award, with Bestulldotanite taking home the show dough.
Trevor Henry engineered the winning trip for the six-year-old daughter of Camluck-Debutante Willvan for the Estate of Daniel McCann of Parkhill, Ontario. The homebred has racked up 23 wins and more than $275,000 in lifetime loot.
