Issues With Fort Erie Proposal
According to an article today by the Toronto Star, the Ontario government has some issues with the plan to save the Fort Erie thoroughbred racetrack. One of the aspects of the deal that concerns the government is
the proposed movement of 200 of Fort Erie's 1,200 slot machines to Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
Under the proposal, the machines that are to be shipped to Woodbine would produce capital that would eventually flow back to Fort Erie. A minister close to the hearings has said that the plan would set an untenable precedent with respect to the slot facilities at Ontario's 16 other racetracks.
