Misty Moonstone Takes WFD Feature
The trip was a tough one for Misty Moonstone in Monday’s $9,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at The Raceway at Western Fair District, but that didn’t stop her from posting an impressive victory.
Race favourite Insincerity shot to the top from Post 6 and supplied the field with first-half fractions of :28.3 and :58.2 over a track listed ‘good’ with a one-second allowance. Misty Moonstone, in the meantime, failed to see the pylons while racing parked and uncovered for driver Scott Coulter. That tandem eventually muscled to the top and proceeded to make the speed to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2. A :30.4 closing panel over the off track was enough to earn Misty Moonstone the head decision over Rachel Olivia in 1:58.1. Putnam Mackenzie rallied well to finish third.
Peter Core trains the six-year-old daughter of Astreos-Access Hollywood for Donald and Heather McGregor of Camlachie, Ontario. The OSS graduate won for the fourth time this season and for the 26th time in her career. Her share of Monday’s loot lifted her lifetime earnings to $390,630.
Misty Moonstone’s Sportswriter brother, Windsong Leopold, will sell as Hip 60 during Saturday’s opening session of the Forest City Yearling Sale held at the Agriplex in London.
Monday’s program also featured a trio of $5,000 Preferred 3 events, with East Meadow (1:58.3), Art Professor (1:57.4) and Black Magic Eyes (1:59.2) capturing their respective assignments.
