Intelligencer Takes Aim At Baymount
For months now, The Intelligencer has been keeping many in the harness racing world abreast to developments regarding the new Quinte Exhibition and Raceway in Belleville, Ont.
An article published in The Intelligencer today takes a very critical stance regarding Baymount Inc.'s undertaking. The article says progress has been less than evident and that lines of communication from the company in regard to Intelligencer articles has deteriorated.

The OLG should definately
The OLG should definately re-think its relationship with Baymount. If they don't have the money, let go of the gaming license and let someone else get at it.
I'm sure the city of Cornwall would love a project of this nature. Belleville was a poor choice of location anyways. Too close to Peterborough, Barrie and Toronto to warrant a track. Rideau Carleton has an entry box overflowing with horses from fledgling Quebec and Cornwall is situated right smack in the middle to alleviate the strain.

I guess you haven't been
I guess you haven't been shipping from Belleville to race at Barrie, Peterborough or Toronto or you wouldn't be saying that it is too close. Try shipping into Mohawk from Belleville through Toronto traffic and let me know how you make out.
It's unfortunate for
It's unfortunate for horsemen in Eastern Ontario, but everything Ady Vos says in the Intelligencer article rings true. I saw loaders pushing dirt around the building site the other day too, but not much else is happening.
I agree that the OLGC or the
I agree that the OLGC or the ORC should step in and make some ultimatums. This has gone on long enough.
Baymount should be given a time line for construction (and I'm not talking maybes or sometime!!!) or they forfeit the race dates. No race dates and they are out of business.
The race dates could then be assigned to someone who REALLY wants to build a Racino in the Quinte area.
I may be wrong but I believe
I may be wrong but I believe about 1 or 2 years ago there was a motion put forth by a group including Scott Rowe to open a race track in the North Bay area, and they were denied slots, as the Belleville track was the last to have approved slots. Perhaps there is hope for this group after all to open a second track as an alternate in the near North. Can anyone update or correct me on this? I believe if there is nothing concrete by now with this group, time to move on!!!

Just replying to C.RAE. Yes,

Yes, There was a proposal that started in 2004 and ended in late 2005 for "NIPISSING RACEWAY"
you can still go to there website even today (.com) but nothing new there.
They were in fact put down because Belleville had the inside track to build a new
facility due to they were already in "action" as a going concern.
If Baymount is not intrested
If Baymount is not intrested in getting on with their responseabilities then sooner rather than later OLGC should recind their promised funding and the ORC should be looking at awarding dates to other intrested parties, and the are other intrested parties.
Ok ENOUGH IS ENOUGH Why
Ok ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Why doesn't the OLGC step in...this is ridiculous now!!!
Look at the money the OLGC is losing and of course the city of Belleville and not to mention the horsemen...Just look how fast Georgian and Grand River got going.
When big business wants to
When big business wants to get something done or built, it happens pronto. Grand River and Georgian moved to new municipalities and started from scratch and were up and going in no time.
Unfortunately the writer of
Unfortunately the writer of this Intelligencer article might have it exactly right. Baymount has acted unusual from the very start.
