Plainridge To Get Racino?
According to a report by thesunchronicle.com, officials at Plainridge Racecourse have made it very clear that they want a 1,500-VLT racino at the Massachusetts oval. And they're willing to put up a large chunk of capital, too
.
The story states that during a public meeting yesterday Plainridge Racecourse president Gary Piontkowski said he and his partners are ready to fund a $100 to 125 million renovation and expansion immediately if state lawmakers allow 1,500 machines there.
The report states that the team is conservatively estimating that each machine would generate $275 per day, and that Piontkowski said that first 400 slot machines would start generating revenue for Massachusetts 90 days after being approved. He also said that 1,000 jobs would be created from the expansion.
"There's not a lot of businesses expanding," Piontkowski was quoted as saying. "There's not a lot of businesses offering new jobs. We're sitting here prepared to do it tomorrow."
The article also explains that the initiative has some political backing.
