Von Knoblauch (Stickman) Passes

It has been reported that horseman Charles Wayne von Knoblauch (Stickman) has passed away at the age of 60.

Born on March 29, 1953, Charles Wayne von Knoblauch (Stickman) spent his childhood playing on the sand hills of Long Island, where he said he invented snowboarding. He later moved to the Chicago area where he began a career racing horses with his father, Harry. He also spent a few years working for Delvin Miller and Sonny Graham on the Grand Circuit taking care of ‘the big mare,’ Tarport Hap.

He returned to Balmoral Park to race horses with his father. Wayne and his wife, Valerie, had a son, Jeremy, born in 1978. He enjoyed his family and friends racing horses there and at the Meadowlands and Pocono Downs. He also raced Star City Hero in Indiana with his partner, Victoria Rouch. He was very proud of Jeremy and daughter-in-law, Shauna, and grandson, Helmutt.

He is survived by them and his father, Harry, three sisters, and two brothers. He is preceded in death by his mother. He will be sadly missed by the racing family all over the United States. He passed away peacefully in November.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Charles Wayne von Knoblauch (Stickman).
