Sterling Cooper Nabs Open Victory
Two weeks removed from a disappointing effort in the Open Pace at Fraser Downs, Sterling Cooper returned to the British Columbia oval and got back in the good books thanks to a 1:54.2 triumph in Friday’s $10,500 edition of the class.
Trainer/driver Dave Hudon wasted little time hustling Sterling Cooper off the gate from Post 5, and after parking past the quarter pole in :27 the gelding touched down on the lead and whacked out middle splits of :56.1 and 1:24.4. A :29.3 closing panel was enough to earn the public’s top choice the victory by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.2. Mr Saratoga was next best, with Killean Cut Kid taking home third prize.
The five-year-old son of Camluck-Babyremembermyname has won 13 of this year’s 21 assignments while banking more than $60,000 along the way. Kelly Hudon and Mary Jane Wiggins of Surrey, BC share ownership on the 20-time winner who now boasts earnings totaling $111,253.
