Update On MacKenzie Injury

Driver Paul MacKenzie was sent to local hospital after being unseated during an incident prior to the fifth race on Sunday night at Grand River Raceway.

Three-year-old trotting filly Charmbo Grace made a break behind the gate in race five and locked wheels, unseating MacKenzie and causing a recall.

The loose horse was caught without incident and scratched from the race.

With assistance, MacKenzie was able to walk to the starting car, which transported him to the paramedics in the backstretch. The Puslinch, Ont. reinsman was complaining of pain in his upper leg and hip and was then transported to the local Fergus Hospital by ambulance.

Mackenzie was x-rayed last night at Fergus Hospital. He doesn't have any broken bones but is still very sore and there appears to be some muscle damage.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing MacKenzie a full and speedy recovery.
