Harper Found Working In U.S.; Ban Extended
After disregarding a worldwide ban from racetracks, a 49-year-old 'down under' horseman has been found violating that ban by working at racecourses in Delaware
. Lindsay Harper's five-year ban was to end in May of 2010, but the ban will now be extended to 2014.
A report by thewest.com.au states that the former Gloucester Park drivers’ premiership titleholder and WA Pacing Cup winning driver was originally banned for conduct detrimental to the racing industry, after stewards and police investigated his alleged involvement in the 'bashing' of Perth blacksmith Adrian Taylor. The blacksmith had been lured to a semi-rural property, then beaten about the head, back and legs with what police believe were blunt objects.
The article quotes down under officials as saying Harper travelled to the U.S. last October, lied on a Delaware Harness Racing Commission groom application and started working in the Delaware industry, thus violating terms of his ban.
