Intimidate Wins Crown Tune Up
Sylvain Filion and Intimidate didn’t get much tempo to chase in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from finding their way to the winner’s circle.
The O’Brien Award-winning homebred will look to do the same on Saturday evening as he gets set to make a road trip to Pocono Downs to take on many of sport’s top older trotters in the $600,000 Breeders Crown Open Trot for trainer Luc Blais.
Knows Nothing shot to the early lead in Monday’s main event on closing night at Mohawk Racetrack, and he was able to waltz through sensible panels of :28 and :57.3 before picking up his speed around the final turn when pressed by the first-over Intimidate. Knows Nothing led by just over two lengths at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.1, but Intimidate’s :27.1 closing speed was just enough for him to win by a neck over Knows Nothing in 1:52.4. Catch The Dream was third.
Judith Farrow of Hemmingford and Les Ecuries Luc Blais Inc of Lochaber Ouest, Quebec bred and own the four-year-old son of Justice Hall-Fabulous Tag. The victory was his seventh of the season from eight appearances and it went down as the 21st lifetime tally for the career winner of $594,500.
