Edward D. Smith Passes

Trot Insider has learned that former standardbred trainer/driver Edward D. Smith passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 4 at the age of 62.

An obituary on poststar.com states that Edward, who also served in the United States Air Force, was the son of Donald F. Williams Sr. and the late June (Cleaves) Williams.

Edward trained horses up until 2004 and last drove horses in 2006.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9 at Bacon Hill Reformed Church, Route 32, Schuylerville. Burial will follow in the Bacon Hill Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited for a reception at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club 2486, 80 Main St., South Glens Falls, NY 12803, immediately following the burial.

Donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the Harness Track Backstretch employees.

Arrangements are under the care of Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 94 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls.
