2014 KY Dates Contingent On Ruling
According to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader, officials with the Red Mile have applied for roughly the same amount of 2014 race dates that the track has this year, but some of the 2014 dates have been tentatively tagged as ‘optional.’
The article explains that the ‘optional’ dates are due to the current legal uncertainty surrounding the operation of ‘instant racing’ terminals in the state.
The report states that the Red Mile will ask for seven optional Saturdays of racing, which will only be held if instant racing, which is also known as ‘historical racing,’ is ruled legal and can be offered at the Lexington raceway.
On August 21, the Kentucky Superior Court heard arguments both for and against the legality of operating instant racing terminals in the state. The court's decision is not expected to be known for months.
