North America's Horse of the Year from 2011, San Pail returned to victory lane for the first time since March 2012 on Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.

The nine-year-old trotting son of San Pellegrino, who was sidelined for over a year with a right-hind ankle injury, captured the $34,000 Preferred Trot in his second start off the shelf in 1:53.1.

The 52-time winner led from start to finish through panels of :28, :56.4 and 1:24.4, before dashing away from his rivals in deep stretch to score the victory. Knows Nothing (Jody Jamieson) finished second with Catch The Dream (Sylvain Filion) third.

Trained by Rod Hughes for owners Glenn Van Camp and Hughes Stables Inc, San Pail now has $3,102,135 in career earnings. He paid $5.90 to win as the second choice.

It was SO much fun cheering the great San Pail on to victory with the "Posse" again and very exciting being in the "picture". It most definitely was worth getting up off the couch at 9 p.m. on a Monday evening and driving from Toronto to The 'Hawk. Congrats Pail, Rod, Emily, Randy, Susan, Rhonda and the entire clan and Posse. I'd say it's amazing that he could come back so good so soon after such a serious injury and lengthy layoff except nothing that Pail and Rod achieve amazes me anymore. They truly are a legendary team in the annals of Canadian harness racing. Welcome back guys!

Nice to see the mighty San Pail back in action and in the winner's circle. Hope he can continue to add to his illustrious career on the track in good health. All the best to a fine ONTARIO competitor and ambassador of the sport and to his ONTARIO connections as well!
