Rose Valley, Top Brand Share Lady Slipper Gold
Red Shores Summerside played host to the three-year-old fillies in the Lady Slipper Stakes on Sunday.
Rose Valley, under the command of Kenny Arsenault, delivered as the post time favourite winning her $11,500 division of the Lady Slipper Gold. Arsenault moved the daughter of Brandons Cowboy into the outside flow en route to the half to track down fraction-setter Dianna Santanna (John Holmes) to win by two lengths in 1:57.3. Mike Campbell trains for owners Dawn and Theodore Bremner of Jemseg, N.B. Dianna Santanna remained in the hunt for second while Windemere Maggie (Walter Cheverie) was third.
Top Brand captured the second Lady Slipper Gold split for Danny Romo. The Brandons Cowboy filly took over the lead from Missassy Attitude at the three-quarter pole en route to a 1:58.3 score. Romo co-owns Top Brand with Thomas Hawco Jr. of Sydney, N.S. Largomotion rallied late to get second while Missassy Attitude faded to third.
The $7,200 Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions went to Gascoigne Dickie (2:01.3), driven by John Holmes for trainer Gerald MacDougall and co-owner Murray MacDonald, and Pictonian Zena (2:01) with trainer and owner Shane Bernard in the bike.
Greatheart Hanover recorded the fastest mile of the day with a 1:56.1 winning time for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Stephen Quinn. Roscoes Child was three and half lengths back in second with Cecils Express completing the triactor. The 6-8-2 combination paid $83.30. The victory wrapped up a successful weekend for Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside, P.E.I. Hughes had a driving double on the afternoon to cap off a five-win weekend performance.
