CDP Feature To Machinthesand; 1,000 For Doyle; MacPhee To Hospital
Machinthesand, under the command of Jason Hughes, won Thursday’s feature race at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino. The four-year-old gelding toured the CDP oval in an impressive 1:55.4.
Hughes decided to put Machinthesand on the point and cruised through fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:26.4 to hold off Artners In Crime for the victory. Sterling Seelster and Private Joke were third in the dead-heat. Machinthesand recorded his sixth win from 26 starts for Noonan Holdings Ltd and Russell and Karen Noonan.
Majian Dillon, with James Ripley in the bike, pulled off a big upset in the trot class. The longshot paid $240.30 to win. Dunmore Alpha was second with Wonderous Hanover third. The time of the mile was 2:02.4. Majian Dillon is owned by Marylea Ripley of Amherst, NS.
Driver Vaughan Doyle reached a career milestone with Mach Vegas in Race 9. The Charlottetown native recorded his 1,000th win in gate to wire fashion in 1:57.3.
The pacer is owned by Nick Oakes and Visigoth Racing Stable.
An accident in race five, involving two horses, sent one driver to hospital. E LS Colton, in line to Brodie MacPhee, and Dr Wilbur D, with John Holmes in the bike, got tangled up going into the paddock turn past the half sending both drivers to the racetrack. MacPhee, who was alert and talking after the spill, was transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth hospital to be checked out by the medical team. Holmes walked away from the incident but booked off for the rest of the night. E LS Colton and Dr Wilbur D were not injured.
