LHRA's Sunday Leamington Preview
This Sunday (October 6) will mark the third of four live race dates for the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association’s meet at the Leamington Fair Grounds. A release from the group has stated that its officials are extremely pleased with the support from the community and race fans thus far.
The release explains that five females will compete in a racing under saddle trotting event on Sunday and that the Ontario Harness Horse Association will be bringing the ‘So You Think You Can Drive’ horses and double-seated jog carts.
There will also be a meet-and-greet area where fans can get up close and personal with a retired racehorse. There will also be draw prizes, including a one-night stay at a Howard Johnson Hotel. Signed NFL memorabilia will be given away, including a Tony Gonzalez Kansas City Chiefs sweater.
The release states that fan attendance and live handle has been very strong considering the short time the group has had to prepare. The release also states that some of the races have had short fields due to the lack of purse money being offered.
In the release, Gord Dougan, the director of racing for the meet, stated that Essex County harness fans, horse owners, trainers and local businesses have been very supportive and great to work with. Lakeshore is also going to conduct a ‘can drive’ for the local Salvation Army branch for the last two Sundays. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the track.
Dougan stated that fans have been cheering and clapping the finish of each race and that they have stated that they are extremely happy to have horse racing back in Essex County.
First-race post time this Sunday is 1:00 p.m.
