Sophomores Set For New Jersey Futurity
A mix of four colts and two fillies are set to go postward in the $20,000 New Jersey Futurity for three-year-old trotters on Thursday at Freehold Raceway.
Sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey, the New Jersey Futurity is restricted to New Jersey-sired trotters. This year’s field includes three by Muscles Yankee, two by Chocolatier and one by Revenue in the third race feature.
Dagget, who won the opening round of the New Jersey Sire Stakes – Green Acres last week, will bid for his second in a row for the team of driver Tyler Butenschoen and his father, trainer John Butenschoen. The Chocolatier gelding has four wins, one second and one third in 17 starts.
Unraced at two, he has banked $31,395 this year, making him the richest of the six starters. He campaigns for William Wiswell of Elkhorn, WI and Jean Goehlen of Aurora, IL. He is rated 4-1 in the morning line from post five.
Winbak Blondie is the slight 2-1 morning line favourite. The daughter of Muscles Yankee will leave from post two with Mark MacDonald at the lines for trainer Rick Zeron.
Winbak Blondie has two wins in nine starts this year, all in Canada. The filly has earned $8,352 for the Rick Zeron Stables, Scott Zeron Inc and Hutt Racing Stable.
