Can The Grey Win Again?

Sterling Seelster will look to repeat in the $2,000 feature Thursday night at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7:00 p.m.

Marc Campbell trains and drives Sterling Seelster, a grey pacer that will start from Post 2 in Race 11 for owners Natasha Campbell of Winsloe and John, David and Aaron MacKenzie.

Artners In Crime is the morning-line favourite for driver Ron Matheson, owner Bobbi Jo Gaudet of Charlottetown and trainer Jackie Matheson. Machinthesand is back racing after a two-week hiatus and has drawn Post 3 for driver Brodie MacPhee. The Mark Bradley trainee turned some heads earlier in the season when he stopped the clock in 1:54.4. Other entries are Toad River (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Private Joke (Mike McGuigan), Pinner (Kenny Arsenault), Artist List (Bradley) and Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie).

The $1,300 trot class will line up for Race 3 with Scarlet Patti favoured from Post 3 for driver Campbell, trainer Darryl MacLean and owner Gordon MacLean of Winsloe. The PJs Nabby mare was a winner in 2:01.4 the last time she was in the this class in August with Campbell in the bike. This time she will face a real challenge from Wonderous Hanover from Post 6 for driver Brian Andrew, trainer and co-owner Mitchell Tierney of New Haven and co-owner Bill Andrew of Calgary. The four-year-old Conway Hall mare had been racing the claiming ranks at Kawartha Downs in Peterborough, Ont., and Flamboro Downs in Dundas, Ont., for trainer Brenda Lane. Howmacs Pride is another top entry for driver MacPhee from Post 7.

The evening’s back-up pace will line up for Race 8 for a purse of $1,550. Doll R General is favoured off the rail for driver Mark McKinnon and owner-trainer Blair MacLeod of New Dominion. He will face real threats from Van Zant (Matheson), Bowyer Hanover (Cheverie) and Camcun (Arsenault).

Veteran driver Vaughan Doyle of Charlottetown will be searching for lifetime win No. 1,000 on the card. He is one win away from the milestone and will have four chances to break it, as he is scheduled to sit behind Ideal Lifestyle in Race 5, Ovation Killean in Race 8, Mach Vegas in Race 9 and Pictonian Walton in Race 10.
