Itrustyou Lowers Hoosier Record
Itrustyou, with Ricky Macomber Jr. at the lines, converted a pocket trip in to an impressive 1:48.3 track record performance in the featured event, a $32,000 Invitational Pace, at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, September 28.
The five-year-old gelding defeated a field of nine to score his fifth win of the season and best his lifetime mark by nearly two seconds.
The previous track record of 1:49 for older pacing geldings was established by Green River Gorge and Rick Schaut in 2008. The 1:48.3 score was just two-fifths of a second off the overall track record of 1:48.1, a mark set by Shark Gesture in the 2010 edition of the Dan Patch.
Itrustyou’s performance marks the 19th track record that has been lowered over Hoosier Park’s seven-eighth-mile oval throughout the 2013 racing season.
Leaving from post five, Itrustyou was hustled off the gate to grab early position and reach the first quarter clocking in :26.3. Thebestofjoel and Ed Hensley also left the gate alertly and were able to find a position along the rail in third with Jammin Joshua and Sam Widger next in line in fourth.
Itrustyou yielded the front down the backside to a hard-charging Jammin Joshua, who found the front at the half-mile mark in :54.2. The field remained in a single file line as the tempo continued to quicken through the three-quarter mark in 1:21.2 with Mykindachip and Jason Dillander leading the first over charge. Mykindachip was able to put a nose in front of the leader, but was no match for Itrustyou, who exploded from the pocket down the stretch.
Using a :27 final panel, Itrustyou powered home to finish two lengths in front of Ideal Choice and Trace Tetrick. Mykindachip battled gamely to round out the trifecta. As the heavy betting favourite, Itrustyou returned $4 to his backers at the window.
Trained by Hoosier Park’s leading trainer, Ron Burke, Itrustyou scored his fifth win of the season and sent his seasonal bankroll over the $100,000 mark. Sired by Third Straight, Itrustyou has won 30 of 79 career starts and sports a lifetime bankroll of $496,756. Itrustyou is owned Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Rtc Stables.
