Team Miller Scores Green Acres Double
Marcus Miller drove a pair of Erv Miller-trained pacers to victory in New Jersey Sire Stakes – Green Acres action on Saturday, September 28 at Freehold Raceway.
The father and son tandem posted an easy victory with Ideal Helen, who is sired by Western Ideal, in the first of four New Jersey Sire Stakes. They were back in the winner’s circle with Sky Is The Limit, also by Western Ideal.
Ideal Helen, who won the Babic Filly Final and the New Jersey Futurity for two-year-olds in her last two starts and extended her winning streak to three, was a two and a half length winner over Fanticipation (by Rocknroll Hanover) in the $7,000 first leg for two-year-old pacing fillies. Odds On Magic by Rocknroll Hanover was third by six and three-quarter lengths in the non-wagering event.
Idea Helen, owned and bred by Don R. Van Witzenburg of Crest Hill, Illinois, paced her mile in 1:58 flat. She now has five wins and two seconds in 10 starts.
Sky Is The Limit ($4.20) was a head winner over Rockaholic (by Rocknroll Hanover) in a $7,000 third leg of the Green Acres for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Sky Is The Limited covered the mile in 1:55.2. Ima Giggity Fool (by Cams Card Shark) was third by two and a half lengths.
Trainer Erv Miller co-owns Sky Is The Limit with Anthony Lombardi, Jim Fielding and Richard Strachan. The gelding now has six wins, five seconds and two thirds from 27 starts this year and earnings of more than $60,000.
Cut A Deal, sired by Rocknroll Hanover, was a four and a half-length winner over Seaside Gal (by Western Ideal) in a non-wagering split for two-year-old pacing fillies. My Caroline (by Rocknroll Hanover) was third by four and three-quarters.
Driven by Daniel Dube and trained by Chris Ryder, Cut A Deal paced the mile in 1:58.1. She is owned and bred by Diamond Creek Farm of Wellsville, Pennsylvania. She has two wins, one second and two thirds in her nine starts.
In the final division, the opening leg for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, longshot Rock Absorber ($30.40), sired by Rocknroll Hanover, was a three-quarter length winner over Card Shock (by Cams Card Shark) and Useful Hanover (by Western Ideal) in 1:58.3.
Rock Absorber was driven to his first victory in 10 tries by Kyle DiBenedetto for trainer Robert Horowitz, the colt’s co-owner with Brian Clark, Jeffrey Morris and Brandon Horowitz.
