Distaffers Prevail In London Preferreds
The trip was sweet, and the end result was even sweeter for Windsong Glamorous in Monday’s $8,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 class at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.
Trevor Henry secured a two-hole trip for Windsong Glamorous, who stalked the pacesetting Insincerity through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:27.4 before popping out of the pocket and going into sprint mode. Windsong Glamorous uncorked a :28.2 kicker to win post the half-length decision over Insincerity in 1:56.2. Rachel Olivia rallied to finish third.
Vernon Cochrane of Dundas, ON owns and trains the six-year-old daughter of Astreos-Briar Hill. The victory was her ninth of the season from just 21 trips to the track. The 24-time winner has stashed away more than $118,000 to date.
Daylon Highlander prevailed in the $5,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for the tandem of driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Ray Elgie. The seven-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Daylon Heritage circled the field and won by neck in 1:56.4. Shellace, who set fractions of :28.1, :57 and 1:26.3, was next best. B R Lucky Lady finished third.
Harry Vriens of Ilderton, ON owns the eight-time winner, who improved her 2013 record to 3-3-3 from 20 trips to the track this season. She’s just shy of $15,000 in seasonal earnings, and her lifetime total sits at $83,428.
