Gotfaithincowboys Wins N.S. Stake
Angus Gillis' homebred Gotfaithincowboys took top honours in the $10,625 Nova Scotia Series Stakes on Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway as she wired a field of seven sophomore pacing fillies in 1:59.3.
Leaving from post four, Gotfaithincowboys took control of the field with Angus Bates in the sulky and carved out fractions of :30.1, 1:01.3 and 1:30.2 en route to the two and a half length triumph.
The 7-2 third choice in the wagering, Gotfaithincowboys paid $9.30 to win. Second choice Whistys Paradise (Ernest Laffin) advanced into second while pocket-sitter Putnams Snap (Todd Trites) finished third at odds of 16-1. An early break in stride inhibited the favourite, Icandothat (Ryan Ellis), and despite a late three-wide rally from the backfield she ended up sixth.
Gillis also trains and owns Gotfaithincowboys, a Brandons Cowboy-Scented Candle filly who earned her fifth win in 10 seasonal starts.
