Captaintreacherous To Race For A Cause
Captaintreacherous, defending U.S. Pacer of the Year, heads a field of seven sophomore pacers entered in a $50,000 three-year-old Invitational Pace at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, September 21.
With wins in the 2013 Meadowlands Pace and North America Cup, Captaintreacherous ships to Hoosier Park’s seven-eighths mile oval after a win in Tioga Downs' $360,211 Cane Pace on September 2. Tim Tetrick will follow his mount to Hoosier Park and will start from post six in the 11th race on the 14-race card that begins at 5:30 p.m.
Boasting a career bankroll over $2.3 million, Captaintreacherous compiled four wins of 1:50 or faster throughout his first season of racing and became the first freshman in racing history to accomplish that feat. Trained by Tony Alagna, the sophomore pacer has won seven of eight starts this year and over $1.4 million in purse earnings for his connections at Captaintreacherous Racing.
While looking to score his eighth win of the season, the connections of the harness racing superstar have agreed to donate 20 per cent of Captraintreacherous’ earnings from Saturday’s race to assist the Animal Protection League, a local non-profit organization that finds homes for unwanted animals in the community.
The evening will also be complimented by the $230,000 Centaur Trotting Classic and two $138,000 divisions of the Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies. In addition to the open stakes, the opening round of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts will be contested on the card. The purse money to be distributed throughout this action packed Saturday night of racing will topple over the $750,000 mark.
“This truly could be the finest card from top to bottom Hoosier Park has ever carded,” Hoosier Park’s vice president and general manager of racing, Rick Moore noted. “To have horses of this quality racing at Hoosier Park speaks volumes to where our racing program has come and where it is going.”
Along with the action taking place on the track, racing fans will have the opportunity to participate in a special wagering opportunity offered exclusively for the September 21 card at Hoosier Park. In a partnership with the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering program and the Indiana Standardbred Association, Hoosier Park will offer a $15,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 Pool on races eight through 11.
The Pick 4, which offers a 50-cent minimum wager, will begin in the eighth race while the featured event, the $50,000 three-year-old Invitational Pace, will be the fourth and final leg of the Pick 4 wager. Approximate post time for the first leg of the wager is at 7:50 p.m. (EST.). Free past performances for the Pick 4 races will be available on the USTA website. Expert selections and handicapping tools are also available on Hoosier Park’s website. The Pick 4 wager will offer a carryover if no one correctly selects four of four winners on Saturday.
Live racing will kick-off on Saturday, September 21 at its regularly scheduled post of 5:30 p.m. The 160-day, all harness racing meet began on April 2 and will be conducted through November 9, following a Tuesday to Saturday schedule.
