Ward Stable Fast Off The Gate
Courtesy of a pair of wins Saturday at Northlands Park, the stable of trainer Lance Ward has found itself tied atop the leaderboard at the Edmonton, AB oval.
Ward's stable sent out starters in seven of Northlands Park's 10 races Saturday. For the meet, the stable has sent out 26 starters and has produced eight wins, good for a tie at the top with the barn of horseman Keith Clark.
With Bill Tainsh, Jr. up in Race 6, Ward's operation produced its first winner of the card, as Bette Blue Chip converted a first-over trip into a three-quarter-length victory in 1:56.1 after being sent off at 7-1 odds.
Ward's stable clicked again in Race 7, as Tainsh, Jr. sent Promise Big Miles to the front. The pair would produce an open-length, wire-to-wire victory in 1:57.2 at 5-1 odds.
"We have had good post positions," said Ward, 48, "and the drivers are doing awesome."
As all know, sickness is always a huge factor in the success of a stable. To this point, Ward is thanking his lucky stars. "I've had one sick horse (this meet)," he said.
