Best Show In Town Takes Rideau Preferred

Best Show In Town certainly put on a good show for fans tonight at Rideau Carleton Raceway. The seven-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear was the wire-to-wire winner in the $12,100 Preferred Pace

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, Best Show In Town and driver Todd Warren left from the inside post and led the field through panels of :26.1, :57.3 and 1:26.2 before shaking off a challenge from Leader Bayama (Guy Gagnon). The roan gelding paced home in :29.4 winning by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:56.1.

The pocket-sitter, Lakota Hall (John MacDonald), finished second and Fox Valley Calvin (Darrell Coville) rounded out the top three.

Best Show In Town scored his second consecutive win and 34th of his career bringing his bankroll to $285,864. The Gerard Demers trainee is owned by 9174 7998 Quebec Inc. of Blainville, Que.

The win was Demers third on the 15-race card. The resident of Papineauville, Que. picked up back to back wins starting in Race 3 with Van Kant Danz (1:57.1) and All Ablaze (2:01), both driven by Guy Gagnon.

Demers, who enjoyed a career best season in 2008, has recorded nine wins so far this year and 184 in his career with over $1 million in earnings.

Trainer Mark Winacott also enjoyed a training triple bringing his yearly win total to 14. The resident of Peterborough, Ontario has sent 993 winners postward in his career earning over $4.7 million in purses.

Gord Brown drove Lady Gambler (1:59.4) to victory in the card's opener for Winacott then scored in Race 6 with Sampson Eden (2:00.3) and in Race 14 with Mystic Factor (2:00.1).

Félicitations à Guy Gagnon pour ses 4 victoires comme conducteur et à Gérard Demers pour ses 3 premières comme entraîneur dimanche soir à Rideau Carleton. Deux Québécois qui nous font honneur et démontrent qu'il y a beaucoup de potentiel au Québec. Espérons que les divers intervenants responsables de la présente crise au Québec sauront trouver une solution viable pour permettre aux gens de l'industrie d'apporter eux aussi leur contribution à l'économie québécoise. En passant, félicitations à la direction de la piste de Rideau Carleton qui sait prendre avantage de la situation avec un pari mutuel supérieur à 200,000$ les dimanches soirs hivernals. Quelle amélioration sur l'année dernière!
