Mowod Released From Hospital
Joe Mowod, assistant trainer for Mike Palone who was injured in a Friday training mishap at The Meadows, was released from Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital late Friday after being diagnosed with and treated for a “clinical concussion” and whiplash.
“There are no broken bones and all the scans came back good,” Mowod said Saturday. “I have a bad headache and a sore neck, but I thought I’d feel a lot worse. The doctors told me to take the weekend off and that we would re-evaluate next week. So I’ll just relax and watch some football this evening.”
Mowod was working horses with Palone when his horse stumbled and fell, flipping Mowod into the air. He said he remembers landing forcefully on the back of his head and neck. The horse was uninjured.
“I don’t think I’ll miss more than a couple days of work,” he said. “I really feel blessed. I can’t say enough about The Meadows’ security staff. They and all the medical people involved really made me feel comfortable.”
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Joe Mowod a full and speedy recovery.
