PEI Colts Stakes Underway At CDP

Taliesin and Dusty Lane Galaxy headlined a Thursday night PEI Colt Stakes program at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino. The trotters were able to keep their winning streaks alive over the legendary CDP oval.

Mark McKinnon drove Taliesin to his sixth win in-a-row for Buntainwood Farms of Brackley Beach, PEI. The son of Northern Bailey-Southview Leah took command of the field past a :30.2 opening quarter and cruised through fractions of 1:03.2 and 1:34.2 to post a two-length victory in 2:04.3.

Dusty Lane Galaxy notched his sixth in-a-row for driver Gary Chappell and trainer Stacey Lund. The two-year-old trotter presented a gate-to-wire score for owner Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire and the Estate of George Boswall of Frenchfort, PEI. The time of the mile was 2:09. The victory pushes his bank account over $16,000 in his first year of racing.

PEI Colt Stakes hardware was also presented to Southfield Shadow (Terry Gallant), Glencove Yoshi (Mike Stevenson), Rash Statement (Walter Cheverie) and Mile Hill Philly (John Holmes)

The best trotters on the east coast battled in the open trot division. Abundaspin, with Harold Shepherd in the bike, recorded his 69th lifetime win tripping the timer in an impressive 1:59. The 13-year-old trotter, owned by Mikeala Lustic of Warren Grove, posted his third win in-a-row and closes in on $500,000 in lifetime earnings.

The top class went to Doll R General for Mark McKinnon’s second win of the night. McKinnon did the driving for owner-trainer Blair MacLeod of Cornwall. The time of the mile was 1:56.4.

PEI Colt Stakes action returns Saturday with a double header at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Red Shores Summerside presents a Sunday program at 1 p.m.
