Comments On Leamington Race Dates
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain, who is also part of the executive of the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association, has commented, along with others, in regard to four additional race dates that have been granted for Leamington Raceway. “It’s been a long, hard battle to get these dates, so we’re excited,” Bain said.
His comments came Wednesday, September 11 when LHRA officials addressed the media regarding the news. Earlier in the day, the Ontario Racing Commission announced that it had granted the four additional dates.
“We have our foot in the door in trying to keep horse racing alive in Southwestern Ontario,” Bain was quoted as saying in a report by the Windsor Star.
“We all know there’s much more at stake than just purse money,” local standardbed trainer Greg Price was quoted as saying, adding, “We’re going to try our best to make sure those 10-race cards are full. We want to put on a great show.”
Price went on to say, “We believe the sport can survive locally if done right.”
